Tips about Thailand
Are you Farang?
Farang is the word that Thais use for foreigners. Why?ย Farang is derived from the word for French (farangseht) and can be merely descriptive, mildly derogatory or openly insulting, depending on the situation. Thais call white European people, Americans and foreigners who got colored hairs, nice big nose and white skin as Farang. Hey!! Do not be worried Farang doesn?t always mean bad word.

Thailand is 543 years ahead of the west, at least according to the Thai calendar that measures fro the beginning of the Buddhist Era (in 543 BC.)
Royal Family is the highest respect of Thais. His Majesty Bhumibol Adulyadej, on the throne for more than 60 years, is the longest-reigning current monarch worldwide.
It is illegal to step on money in Thailand, as the king?s image is on coins and notes.
Feet are the lowest and dirties part of the body in Thailand. Keep your feet on the floor, not on a chair, never touch anyone or point with your foot, never step over someone sitting on the ground. Take your shoes off when you enter a house or a temple.
Dress modestly and don?t sunbath topless.
Why Wai?
Traditionally, Thais greet each other not with a hand shake but with a prayer-like palms together gesture, know as a Wai. The placement of the fingertips in relation to the features varies with the recipient?s social rank and age. The safest, least offensive spot is to place the tips of your fingers to nose level and slightly bow your head.
However, just you express Wai to them in the right way or not; they will always smile and express Wai back to you.
